        Verdict

        Mick Channon's Jay Gee's Choice did little wrong on his debut in an Ascot maiden last month and will be tough to beat in the opening maiden. However, it remains to be seen how good the form of that race was and at the forecast odds punters may prefer to look elsewhere for some each-way value. Among those worthy of a mention are the Paul Cole-trained Sovereign Dreamer, who is entitled to improve on his debut seventh in a different Ascot event, Ben Hanbury's Khabir who would probably not mind any further rain and John Dunlop's Dancing Burren of whom a bolder show can be expected than first time out at Newbury. Anani looks the pick of the newcomers but may need more time.
