Verdict
The formula of selecting the best rider on a horse that can be given a chance is adopted here, hence the choice of Desert Light ahead of Blades Boy, Effective and Brigadore. The selection ran well at Newbury last week in what was, overall, a more competitive affair than this. With a good rider booked, he can go well tonight, certainly so if repeating that effort. With Nina Carberry booked, Blades Boy, who has a chance on form anyway, comes solidly into things, while Effective's chance is there for all to see following a Goodwood win, as is Brigadore's following a Pontefract success. In fact, any one of those so far mentioned could have been made the selection. Proud Western is five pounds higher than when scoring in a Musselburgh seller last month and has a good rider booked, while Moritat is certainly well-weighted based on the best of his form of the last nine months, so bear him in mind. Shirley Oaks can be given a squeak based on her best, although it has come over further but this does seem to be her time of year. Somerset West is very well weighted if recapturing course and distance winning form of last summer, as is Turibius, but recent efforts have lacked something, as have Turibius's. Rileys Dream won a seller here over six furlongs last summer, but more will be needed tonight. Overall, though, in a tight heat, we will nominate Desert Light.
