In depth

Verdict

Greenfield may defy topweight here at the expense of Fundamental and Mamboesque, with Who Cares Wins and Bobsbest others to consider. This is a fairly wide-open handicap in which only a tentative vote goes to Greenfield, who shaped well enough on his latest start at Hereford despite racing wide in search of better ground. Third and running on at the end, the six-year-old should go close to breaking his duck over timber after a relatively light campaign on the Flat that included a third in the 2002 November Handicap. Fundamental made all at Ayr in February and has not been out since finishing fourth on fast ground at Worcester in September. If fit enough, Jonjo O'Neill's charge can prove troublesome, along with Mamboesque, who ran well on unsuitably fast ground at Haydock in November after a break. Will of The People has been off nearly two years, but his trainer has the knack of getting them ready as we know, while Who Cares Wins, the mount of Mick Fitzgerald, and Knoctopher Abbey, from a stable in form, are both capable of getting involved in the finish. A tricky race then, from a punting point of view, with only a small stake recommended on Greenfield.
