In depth
Verdict
Calling Dot Com cost 52,000 gns, but is finally beginning to repay that outlay having won three times over this trip on Lingfield's Polytrack during the winter and that sees him carrying top weight here, but it may not stop him. By contrast Firewire was a bargain buy at 1,500 gns but won a maiden handicap at Nottingham last term where he beat Trotter's Future by half a length but is now considerably worse off. Trotter's Future has not shown much so far this spring, but is at the right end of the handicap now. Rutland Chantry is best when the mud is flying, while Analyze beat Firewire by three lengths at Nottingham in July and there will be little between them on the revised terms. Ascari is fit from racing on the sand, having won at Lingfield in January while King's Crest won three times in a nine day period for Stuart Williams last August. He has shown little in two runs this spring for his new yard, but must not be ignored.
