      Verdict

With the going presenting no problems, Shekan Star gets the call here ahead of Carraig, Ronnies Lad, Parsley's Return, Lighthorne Lad and Ivana Illyich. Basically, if running to the level of form that saw Shekan Star finish second on soft going here over 10 furlongs in May, she has to be involved in the finish of this modest race. Carraig is also interesting. He improved to finish third in a Yarmouth seller last time and, only lightly-raced, first-time blinkers could bring about further improvement. Lady Suesanne gained her first win last time, and it came here over a slightly shorter trip. Clearly in good heart, she is entitled to respect again. Ditto Ronnies Lad re best form. Parsley's Return did little wrong in defeat in first-time blinkers at Brighton last time, and he should have more to come, while Lighthorne Lad improved for the step up to 10 furlongs last time, his first run for a year, and he is fully entitled to improve on that, even though he drops back in trip, and is respected. Ivana Illyich's best recent effort came in a claimer - but a stronger race than this - over course and distance in July, and a repeat of that gives her solid claims. Finally, it would be no surprise to see Farthing improve at today's trip but, overall, the vote goes to Shekan Star.
