In depth

Carrig Cathal has been unable to cope with a step-up in class after a very easy victory in a Ballinrobe handicap but this should be his level. COOL COLONNADE made a successful start over fences at Clonmel where he jumped well and looked a natural. He faces tougher opposition here but looks one to follow. Or Jaune De Somoza made a winning chasing debut at Fairyhouse and has taken on stronger opposition in his next two starts so should be in contention while Plinth, nine times a winner over hurdles, looked a smart novice chaser at Kilbeggan last month before finding Grade 3 over the minimum trip too much for him back over timber at Tipperary.

Carrig Cathal 25-1 (10-11) Led, ridden after 3 out, headed entering straight, no impression, 5th of 6, 22 3/4l behind Peregrine Run (11-12) at Wexford 2m 4f gd in Jul.

Cool Colonnade (IRE) 2-1fav (11-11) Soon prominent, some slight mistakes, led before straight, stayed on well run-in, won at Clonmel 2m gd in Jun beating From Eden (11-12) by 3l, 13 ran.

Or Jaune De Somoza (FR) 13-2 (11-10) In rear, closer in 4th after 5 out and left 3rd next, pushed along after 3 out and no impression approaching next, no extra from 2 out, 3rd of 5, 18 1/2l behind Dinons (11-10) at Wexford 2m 4f Good - Yielding in Jun.

Plinth (IRE) 12-1 (11-0) Pushed along briefly early, soon prominent, not fluent 5th, pushed along briefly from next, under pressure from 3 out, dropped to last before straight, weakened 2 out, last of 5, dist behind Thomas Hobson (11-0) at Tipperary 2m (1) gd in Jul.

Captain Commander (IRE) 100-1 (11-12) Prominent, 3rd at 4th, fell 9th, at Punchestown 2m 5f Good - Yielding in Jun.

Father Jed (IRE) 20-1 (11-2) Waited with towards rear, pushed along briefly from 4 out, 4th 3 out, soon no impression, 3rd from last and kept on same pace without threatening, 3rd of 5, 33l behind Plinth (11-2) at Kilbeggan 2m 4f gd in Jun.
