Verdict

CONTRADA is the call with Havanavich and Linby as the ones most likely to stop the follow-up bid. Roger Charlton doesn't normally bother with mid-50 rated horses in handicaps but Contrada seems to have been more an exception than the rule. He won an apprentice's handicap in fair style at Brighton and with no penalty accrued, it is understandable why connections are keen to get back to the track. Havanavich has slumped down the ratings over the course of this term. He won off a mark of 50 at Great Leighs last month but was never in the hunt five days later at Great Leighs. Linby was bought in after winning a selling handicap at Beverley. He was evidently sold privately afterwards. Trinkila was stopped at a vital stage at Kempton last month. Bruki was quietly backed ahead of her run behind Rutba at Yarmouth with no success. Kalokairi drops back in trip having exhibited little worthwhile form over two miles. Water Violet is likely to be popular given that she is trained by James Fanshawe. The trainer has had a modest season so far although any money for the filly should not be dismissed lightly. A modest race in which Contrada has at least exhibited some idea of the qualities required to win.
