        Verdict

        SURWAKI has leading claims in this company and is selected ahead of Artreju and Countrywide Comet. The last named is effective at this level and, having been lightly raced since winning a couple of claimers last winter, the four-year-old arrives here fresher than all his rivals. He has also performed well after a break in the past, so strong market support would be noteworthy today. Artreju has never really been convincing over ten furlongs, so this drop in trip may provide the tonic he needs to boost his profile. Gary Moore's gelding sets the standard on the official BHA ratings; and he must be considered as a serious threat on these terms. However, Surwaki is a confirmed miler and, having gone close here on numerous occasions, his proven ability to handle the Lingfield racing surface makes his case for support a touch more compelling. The booking of Jim Crowley is also a positive move and the jockey's strength in a finish will be a useful tool to produce when push comes to shove.
