Verdict
Ever Cheerful has shown enough to earn a victory in this sort of company, with Dee Dee Girl, Knight On the Tiles, and Star of Light others to catch the eye. Ever Cheerful ran any number of good races in the spring and summer, and was unfortunate not to open his account at Chester in May when caught close home. The worry here is that he was down the field on his only previous try at seven furlongs, but was certainly not stopping at the finish at Southwell last time. This company is no stronger, and he can gain a deserved first win. Dee Dee Girl improved out of all recognition when scoring in similar company to this at Redcar, and if that was no fluke, she can take a hand. Knight OntheTiles has given his new owner some fun already, when sent up to Catterick recently, and returns to the scene of his previous victory. He steps back up in trip here though and might not last out. Star of Light was well held by Brave Maestro over the course and distance, but that was a slight improvement for him, and he is another that will benefit from the drop to this grade. For the winner we return to Ever Cheerful who can finally come good.
