Verdict

High draws and early pace have proved a winning combination on Lingfield's Turf track and BYRD IN THE HAND appears to have both of those attributes. A winner at Brighton following a series of near misses, the gelding may be good enough to defy a 5lb rise up the weights. Lady Crossmar has plummeted down the weights this term and Richard Hannon's filly stayed on well over a shorter trip at Chepstow last week. Substantivo is still a maiden after 12 starts though any confidence behind Tim Jarvis's gelding would make him very much of interest. Popping Candy has had fewer chances than most and while she clearly isn't the most straight forward of individuals, Roger Varian's filly should be staying on dourly when others have cried enough.
