Verdict

A trappy small-field contest where LE TOREADOR is a tentative pick, while Ivory Silk is probably the biggest threat. The selection has not been seen since October, when his turf form had tailed right off. The break will hopefully have served him well, and his record of two wins from three starts on artificial surfaces is encouraging. He is weighted to be very competitive today and in what could be a tactical affair he is suggested. Ivory Silk is 7lbs higher than his most recent win, which came 11 starts and 14 months ago at Wolverhampton. He showed good form though last time out when runner-up at that same track, over this trip, and is much respected. Pawan is 11lbs lower than his last win, and although he has scored over course and distance some six years ago, he reserves his best for Southwell and is taken on. Hoh Hoh Hoh has never yet won away from turf and on recent evidence it would be a shock if he proved up to the task today, and Le Toreador marginally makes most appeal.
