Verdict

Penton Hook is no more than a nominal selection in division one of the maiden with form thin on the ground. High Alert and Mister Fong are two interesting newcomers for whom the market should be revealing. Peter Winkworth's horses have been running well this month and he went close with a juvenile at the weekend that had been disappointing on debut. Therefore, it's reasonable to hope for an improved showing from Penton Hook and his run at Goodwood was not without promise as he wasn't beaten too far behind some fair sorts. Jeremy Noseda introduces a relatively expensive purchase in High Alert who is wearing blinkers on debut. The yard has a decent strike rate with their juveniles here but they are usually priced accordingly and it's difficult to envisage this one providing anything in the way of value. Tae Kwon Do proved incalcitrant on debut but that appeared to be a better race than this one and he may be able to get involved if behaving better as he's certainly bred to be useful. Master Fong is worth a second look but may not come into his own until racing over further which may also be the case with Dark Ranger and Fullback whilst Lastbustowoodstock was only a cheap purchase. The market may help clear the muddy waters but Penton Hook is the suggestion here.
