        Verdict

        Steely Dan can defy topweight at the expense of Theatre Lady and Coppington Flyer in division one of this mile handicap. John Best's five-year-old carries a six-pound penalty for his victory here on Thursday, but as long as there is a decent enough pace, he should be up to the task, now that he has finally regained the winning thread. Theatre Lady will be expected to set the pace, and she will not go down without a fight, having just failed to make all here in amateur company six days ago. A winner over a mile and a quarter the time before, she may need the step back up to that trip before visiting the winner's enclosure though. Coppington Flyer has the assistance of Kieren Fallon and is well handicapped now, but has not won since scoring on turf at Folkestone last May, and is passed over. For the winner we return to Steely Dan.
