Verdict
Greek Star has shown promise in each of his starts to date and, in a run-of-the-mill contest, gets our vote ahead of Two Of Clubs, Pay Attention and Scientist. The selection followed up a fair Wetherby second to Hernando's Boy on his debut with a similar effort behind Bollin Annabel at Haydock. This race does not look as strong as those and he looks set to play a leading part here. Turning to the others and Aston Lad showed some promise on the Flat but at a modest level, while Perfect Balance might be capable of improvement in first-time headgear. Scientist is from a canny yard and it would be no surprise to see the gelding, who won over seven furlongs at Redcar in October, show up in this event. Two Of Clubs put up a reasonable effort to finish third to Norma Mile last time, and that horse will by now have run in Wincanton's opening race. From a good yard, Pay Attention, who won a 10-furlong Newcastle apprentice race in August is another to very much consider but, overall, on this occasion we will side with Greek Star.
