In depth

Verdict

Ali Al Raihe trained the first four thoroughbred winners at the opening Carnival meeting last week, three of them ridden by Tadhg O'Shea. The pair team up here with Prepared, who reappeared with a maiden victory in November but has found handicap company a struggle subsequently, though he did run well behind today's rival Stormardal last week. Alareef led for a long way in that latter event and though eventually well beaten that was his first start since February and he'll have come on a bundle for the run. The race was run at a furious pace and the winner came with a late thrust to catch MUHTARAM (NAP) on the line. The runner-up was ridden by an apprentice and is 3lb worse off but stable jockey Fernando Jara should hold on to him a bit longer this time and his mount can take his revenge and land this. Tiz Now Tiz Then showed promise here a year ago without winning while stablemate Filfil would have an outstanding chance if able to recapture the form shown when beating the selection comfortably just over a year ago, though he disappointed on his reappearance. Nathr was very impressive over the track and trip in November but never got going on a return visit a couple of weeks later while Bluff is difficult to evaluate on his debut here, though he cost $250,000 and had winning form on Dirt in the USA.
