In depth

Verdict

Cosmo Charlie had the misfortune to come up against Heavy Metal three times last season and couldn't cope but he's won here at this level and could hardly have made a better start over a mile last month where Pat Dobbs took the race by the scruff of the neck from the first bend. He had something in hand at the finish but this longer trip is much more to the liking of stable companion and runner-up ETIJAAH (NAP). Ridden by an apprentice that day, he never got into the race until it was all over then came charging through to suggest today's trip can see him reverse positions under Dane O'Neill. Saltarin Dubai was well beaten by Cosmo Charlie last November but was returning after a long absence and showed very good form in tough handicaps before a Listed handicap victory over track and trip. He might need the run but should be winning races at the Carnival. Musawaat has never run over the trip so may be best watched while Second Summer was a long way behind the selection in December.
