Verdict

Joie De Vivre went up 5lb for beating Leeswood Lily 3 lengths in an Ayr handicap over 2m at this level and couldn't quite cope when tackling this trip at Newcastle before finishing runner-up in a jumpers' bumper there. The latter has a 12lb pull in the weights and Brian Hughes on board so should reverse the form. Gemologist has had 15 starts on this track and 33 races in total without winning though she's been placed on numerous occasions and will probably be in the frame again. Calliope is 7lb higher than her victory at Kelso in September though the drying ground will aid her cause but the vote goes to MILLIE THE MINX. Dianne Sayer's mare is a consistent performer on the Flat and over timber and though well beaten in third at Sedgefield last time was racing over a trip too short.
