Verdict
A headscratcher of a handicap with the vote going to Waltzing Wizard over Lord Chamberlain, The Old Soldier and, possibly, Mickledor. This is not a strong race and, given that the selection won over course and distance from a nine-pound higher mark in 2002 and his stable is in good form, he can go well. Lord Chamberlain made eyecatching late headway at Lingfield last time and is the type to pop up some time. There is no doubt that African Spur is well weighted on the back of his May form last year and, despite disappointing, did attract money at Yarmouth last time. The Old Soldier is rated just a pound higher than for his Catterick win last August, while Lieuday would not be the first horse to improve for falling under the care of Mark Brisbourne. Hormuz is another to be well weighted on his best form of a couple of years ago but appears to have regressed, and Royal Windmill came back to form with a fair second in an Ayr seller last time. Tojoneski keeps knocking at the door and Mickledor suggested last time that a step up to something like today's trip should bring about improvement. Sennen Cove got off the mark at the 29th attempt last time but a two-pound rise might be enough to hinder further success.
