In depth

Verdict

Flotta has a good chance of finally getting off the mark, with the consistent Beau Artiste and Regent's Secret the main dangers. Mick Channon makes a round trip of 776 miles from West Ilsley in a bid to get Flotta into the winner's enclosure and the trip should be rewarded, looking at the opposition. Flotta has not had that many outings for a four-year-old, just 11 in fact, and has shown on more than one occasion that there is a race to be won with him. Second to Mr Ed in a class C event at Salisbury in May, he has not progressed from that effort, but this grade lower contest is surely there for the taking. His main stumbling block appears to be the year younger Beau Artiste who has his first try at a mile and a half. He has never stepped out of class D company and is obviously not highly regarded. However, he is an honest sort who, if this race was judged on breeding, would be an odds-on shot. Of the rest, Regent's Secret may be a place possible, having gone down the ratings since a couple of good runs for Richard Hannon last year. Take Flotta to open his account.
