Verdict

GALLAGHER should prove tough to beat here and he gets the vote over Plum Pudding and Intrepid Jack. The selection was runner-up in the Richmond, Morny and Mill Reef last season and he finished the campaign running in a Group 1 contest at Newmarket. He may have needed the run in the group 3 Jersey Stakes at Ascot last time and he should be spot-on for this. The only slight worry is the trip as he is arguably better over 6f, but this is only his second try over 7f so we are prepared to give him another chance. Plum Pudding has won three of his last five races but he was well beaten when last tried in this grade and although the drop in trip will not be a problem, the chances are he will find at least one too good. Intrepid Jack is quickly turned out after finishing down the field in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Ascot, but he had previously run well to chase home JJ The Jet Plane at Windsor and a reproduction of that effort should see him competitive. Vitznau looks the best of the others and if he could reproduce his run at Epsom at the start of last month then he would have a chance. Gallagher looks the class act though and he gets the vote.
