Verdict
Defoe comes to hand early and justified favouritism in this 12 months ago. He later won the Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket and was placed in a Group 1 in Germany but faces a stronger field this year. YOUNG RASCAL’s only defeat last season came when seventh in the Epsom Derby. He promises to make an even better four-year-old and is 2-2 on this track. Communique is held by the selection on last year’s St Simon Stakes form and was beaten earlier by Laraaib in the Cumberland Lodge at Ascot when Blakeney Point finished last. Mootasadir is an all-weather specialist while this looks on the sharp side for Melbourne Cup runner-up Marmelo and also the filly Proschema.
