In depth

Verdict

Earth Planet showed a decent level of form in bumpers last season, ran promisingly on his hurdling debut at Wincanton last month and is taken to open his account over timber here, getting the verdict ahead of Fairoak Lad and Lord Appellare. The last mentioned, who showed respectable form in bumpers, looks to be going the right way over hurdles now and should be thereabouts. Nicky Henderson's Petit Robin, twice a winner over fences in France, was well held on his hurdling debut for new connections last term but that was in a better race than this so he has to be respected in this company. Alan King's Porters War has run with credit in both starts in bumpers and could be of interest on his hurdling debut, while David Pipe's dual bumper winner Seven Is My Number similarly has to be considered first time out over timber. Fairoak Lad lost no caste in defeat behind the potentially decent The Tother One on his debut and has to be respected in what looks a decent race. Earth Planet has solid claims though and he is preferred.
