Verdict

An open-looking Classic trial, and the betting could provide some clues as to the chance of Aidan O'Brien's runner, Maderno. His performance when winning his only start at The Curragh was not particularly striking but he will not be travelling here to make up the numbers and has to be respected. Bragadino, from the stable that won the Craven Stakes, will have his supporters. Having won on his debut at Sandown he ran well in the Champagne Stakes at Goodwood before floundering on soft ground. The selection, though, is Foreign Accent. John Gosden's horses have been in sparkling form this week and this half-brother to Killer Instinct could hardly have been more impressive on his sole start of last year, when he beat a big field at Doncaster last backend by five lengths. The runner-up, Zaajel, is held in high regard and Foreign Accent, who is thought likely to prove just as good on this faster ground, can complete an excellent week for the Manton yard by maintaining his unbeaten record here.
