Verdict

Reel Gift can keep up Richard Hannon's excellent record in this, with Guertino, Cracking, Cake and Victorian Bounty all in with a shout. At first glance this really is the most wide-open of renewals, but the plain fact is that Richard Hannon loves to have the winner, and has done so three times in the past five years. The Everleigh handler does complicate matters here though, saddling no less than five runners, and Cake has been well tipped up. Quite rightly so, as she has been campaigned at a high level all season, but we are going to take her on with stablemate Reel Gift who looked the part when making a winning debut at Kempton ten days ago. Granted he has to give 9lb away to Cake, but could be a fast improver, and makes more appeal than the more experienced Cracking. They are sure to go hell for leather here, and that should suit Carlisle winner Guertino, trained by Bryan Smart who sent out the 1999 winner of this contest, Don Puccini. Mazzanti and Victorian Bounty have already visited the winner's enclosure this term and deserve a place in the line-up, but Reel Gift could be anything in time and is taken to beat his more experienced rivals and land the big pot.
