Echelon is taken to turn the tables on Bon Nuit, with Royal Alchemist and Teeba the other major contenders in this Listed fillies' event. The sky was supposedly the limit for Chic's half-sister Echelon when she went into winter quarters, and hopes were high that she would be a serious Classic contender. However, she disappointed in the 1,000 Guineas, and the decision to go sprinting failed to pay off when she could only finish third in the Cecil Frail at Haydock. However, she looked much more comfortable when put back over a mile at Sandown, and would probably have beaten Bon Nuit had the gaps appeared. They did not, and she was beaten a whisker by Geoff Wragg's filly. Echelon should make amends now, although the one minor negative is the fact that the third home at Sandown, Squaw Dance, was beaten at odds-on midweek at Yarmouth. That apart though, she has leading claims. Royal Alchemist has kept good company including when fifth in the Coronation Stakes, so should run well along with Teeba who is held in high regard, but it is asking a lot to make the leap to Listed class so soon. Quite simply, Echelon should now begin to realise her potential and can stamp her class on this field.
