In depth

Verdict

Heltornic is the one to beat in the finale, with Bonchester Bridge, Grenfell and Flirty Jill to note for the future. This final race on the card should not take a great deal of winning, and it should pay to follow those with the best recent form. With that in mind, we look to Heltornic as the answer. The Michael Scudamore-trained mare made all to put her rivals to the sword at Lingfield last time, and that was no more than she deserved after her unlucky fall at Uttoxeter the time before. She has a bit more to do with her penalty but not many line up with realistic chances of stopping her. One that can play a part is Bonchester Bridge who seems a nice prospect judged on her bumper form. She has been allowed to bowl along in her races though, and if Mick Fitzgerald lets her take the favourite on from the word go, she may find herself outbattled by her more experienced rival. Grenfell was well behind the selection when they met in a Listed Aintree bumper last spring and has not been seen since, while Flirty Jill's yard had not had the best of luck of late but she too is a nice prospect, as the dam hails from the same family as Gaye Chance and Gaye Brief. Heltornic has already proven herself and can win again.
