In depth
Verdict
Papeete has shown enough to suggest she can win a race like this, and she gets the selection for this opening event at Gosforth Park, with Mindset a big danger and Makfool likely to be the pick of the newcomers. The latter hails from a Mick Channon stable which has won 33 two-year-old races this season and four out of six have won at this track, so this Spectrum colt carries the utmost respect. Mindset has shaped well enough in two starts at Folkestone so far, and Luca Cumani's filly has certainly shown enough to suggest she can play a part here, as has Mark Johnston's representative, Kirkstone. However, Papeete has caught the eye in both her starts so far, finishing strongly on her debut at Windsor and again when a close third at Epsom last time. This stiff seven furlongs should suit her ideally, and she is taken to get off the mark under Paul Hanagan.
