In depth
Verdict
Purchased from Ballydoyle at last month’s sales, THE STATESMAN may prove good enough. Six lengths behind Spanish Tenor when placed at Cork last time, the latter was not beaten far in a Group 3 subsequently. That looks stronger form than Lorikeet’s placed effort at Wolverhampton but Cray and Incandescent are likely improvers. Stablemates Middle Kingdom and Make Memories debut for John Gosden with the former preferred while Godolphin’s Battle Ensign and the gelded Mukalal are other newcomers to note.
