      Verdict

      Magnolia Ridge has yet to win on the all-weather though went close over 1m4f here last month. He’s won over hurdles this year so this longer trip should not be a problem. Jan Smuts has done all his winning so far on Turf while Waltz Darling has not won since 2014 and Come On Lulu has yet to win anywhere in 14 attempts. MERRIMENT has had just the five starts and was having her first outing since September when beaten three lengths over 1m4f here last week. Peter Niven’s three-year-old filly has plenty of scope for improvement over this extra distance and gets the nod.
