      Verdict

The improving Esclarmonde is taken to see off the likes of Tifernati, Hurricane Thomas and Kindlelight Blue in the finale. Esclarmonde did not race as a juvenile, but has had three outings this year, the latest of which was at Bath where she was a staying on fourth of 14 on rain-softened ground. She makes her handicap debut today off what may turn out to be a reasonable mark, and in the hope that she will cope better with the faster ground, Luca Cumani's filly is selected to open her account. Tifernati has been difficult to place since scoring on the Kempton Polytrack in March , but has slipped down to a decent mark and can figure again, while Hurricane Thomas, who ran in snatches at Pontefract last time, is stepped up to a more suitable trip. Kindlelight Blue has to give weight away all round which is a bit of a task despite the moderate company, and so, in what is an uninspiring end to proceedings, it is Esclarmonde that is lumbered with the vote.
