The usual large field for this long-established handicap in which another chance is afforded to MUTAWATHEA. The Crisford gelding was a fine second in the Victoria Cup and ran well in the Wokingham Stakes, beaten just over 5l despite clearly finding the trip too short. He needs everything to drop right but Robert Havlin knows him well and he's a value selection. Buckstay finished ahead of the selection in the Wokingham and was narrowly behind when third in the Victoria Cup so he seems sure to be in the shoot-out too. With conditions to suit, he should run a really big race with the ever-improving George Wood claiming a valuable 7lb. Flash Fire won that Victoria Cup but needs to put behind him whatever went wrong when last of 26 in the Wokingham, whilst Heaven's Guest looks to have been prepared specifically for this race in which he was successful two years ago. At the foot of the weights, both Growl and Kickboxer, the latter in a first-time hood, are of interest stepping up to this trip for the first time.
