Verdict
Last year's Derby hero MASAR reappeared over a year later in last month's Hardwicke Stakes where things didn't go according to plan. He stumbled out of the stalls and had to come wide round the final bend before his challenge flattened out. He'll have come on a bundle for the run and should be capable of reversing form with third-placed Mirage Dancer, though the latter was only beaten half-a-length in this a year ago. Communique finished last at Ascot though that was nowhere near his form while his stable companion Baghdad has come through the handicap route and deserves a crack at this grade having completed a double when landing the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at the Royal fixture. This is a very difficult race for three-year-olds to win but Dashing Willoughby's defeat of Barbados in the Queen's Vase could be given a boost by the runner-up earlier in the day.
