Verdict

In this maiden, the vote goes to Shannon Springs, with the main dangers reckoned to be Tarrgis, Ameeq and Bay Story. The selection showed plenty of maiden promise last season, and was even considered good enough to run in an Italian Group 1 at the end of the year. That proved beyond him, but a return to the form of his Listed third at York in August puts him firmly in the picture today. The Michael Jarvis-trained Tarrgis has to be considered as he is from a stable that has been among the winners and is by Mtoto out of a three-parts sister to Sadler's Wells, so has plenty to like on breeding. The betting should provide some guidance. Another to seriously consider is Ameeq who has shown promise and should strip fitter for his Kempton reappearance, although he was expected to run better last time than he actually did. Bay Story, a son of Kris S, has also to be of interest from the Mark Johnston stable that is in good form, but Mr Vegas was last of ten on his Italian debut, so needs to find improvement, while Absolutely Perhaps will be fit from the all-weather but the feeling is that improvement is needed from him also. Once again, then, the vote goes to Shannon Springs.
