It usually pays to follow the market in this event, and despite the size of the field, Prince Tamino is taken to complete the hat-trick at the expense of Trafalgar Bay, Mutamarres and Mr Sandicliffe, with Johannes and Dark Missile a couple more to note. Over the past 10 years, those to the fore in the betting have traditionally dominated proceedings in this competitive handicap, so we lean towards Prince Tamino who can add to his victory at York in the William Trophy in which quite a few of today's rivals were behind. He quickened up well on the outside to defy a 7lb penalty on the Knavesmire, leaving the impression that there is much more to come, and should maintain the form over third-placed High Curragh on virtually similar terms. A bigger danger may well be Trafalgar Bay who was back in fifth place at York, but who is now 8lb better with the selection. In addition he will be partnered by Frankie Dettori whose record on the colt is two-from-two. Mutamarres responded well to a first-time visor and return to six furlongs when scoring at Ripon but has a bit more to do in this company, while Mr Sandicliffe looks held by the selection on York running. Dandy Nicholls saddled Tax Free to land this 12 months ago, and from the wealth of sprint talent at Sessay, relies on just Johannes who will be having just his seventh career outing. He has a bright future as a sprinter and will no doubt be placed to win a big race one day. Dark Missile hails from an in-form stable at present and could run into a place, but for the winner we return to Prince Tamino.
