Verdict
The large field could make this into a lottery, but on what we have seen Obe Gold looks capable of landing another big prize for Mick Channon, with Mary Read, Pitch Up and Cape Columbine others who can go very well. Obe Gold shoulders topweight after landing a nursery here in September and going on to take the Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy just under a fortnight ago. Already proven over trip and ground, and with big field experience he looks the one to be on again. Mary Read gets a useful 7lb from the selection and can go close provided she gets this trip. Campaigned entirely over the minimum trip so far, she has plenty of speed and has been placed in Group 3 company, so she is more than capable at this level. Pitch Up also has to prove he stays six furlongs, but went well enough on his one previous attempt. Terry Mills's runner enjoyed a couple of wins in the summer but may just have gone off the boil after being assessed by the handicapper. Cape Columbine is a formidable filly who was entitled to run green on debut at Goodwood, but whose effort there to finish second was an eyecatcher in the circumstances. She will be better next year, but could again go close here after that experience. But Obe Gold is in great heart and is our idea of the winner.
