Sleeping Indian found just Le Vie Dei Colori too good in this event 12 months ago under similar conditions and John Gosden's lightly raced five-year-old is taken to go one better today and score at the main expense of Makderah and Stronghold. The last mentioned got the better of Byron by a length at Goodwood last time and meets that rival on the same terms today so has to be respected although he would probably prefer a faster surface. Byron certainly looks to be the pick of Godolphin's two runners ahead of Satchem and a bigger threat looks to be Aidan O'Brien's Art Museum, who has done nothing wrong so far but this looks tougher and he will need to improve again to trouble the selection. Polar Ben has his ideal conditions but is proving to be hard to win with and a bigger threat is likely to come from Makderah, who showed an ability to handle this sort of ground when successful at Ascot last month. Sleeping Indian could be different class to his rivals though and he gets the vote.
