          Verdict

          The Grantchester Rated Stakes has drawn together a closely-knit field of smart handicappers and the shortlist could feasibly encompass half of the acceptors. However, the twilight trip of seven furlongs may catch out a few of the seasonal debutantes, as it has all the hallmarks of a rough and tumble affair. Inchdura has the best of the draw and will be suited by the firm ground. He is as genuine as they come and should not be underestimated. But his style of running cannot guarantee that he will have the race run to suit and his stablemate, Border Subject, appeals more of those drawn towards the stands¿ side rail. He can tow them along at a furious pace and will be hard to pass if he is allowed to dominate. That said, Wannabe Around can also cut out the running and can set a true test for the stronger finishers on the far side. Royal Millennium, Capricho and Surprise Encounter are all capable of getting involved in the shake-up. But the race-fit Selective edges a narrow vote after a string of consistent efforts. He is equally effective on this firmer going and can build on his encouraging effort when finishing runner up in the Lincoln last month.
