Trends suggest that anything drawn in single figures can be safely ignored here although the Cambridgeshire did buck the recent statistics to some degree which is a slight worry for the trend followers. Askar Tau is in 14, which is on the cusp as no winner in the last 10 has been drawn lower than 17 so, with the value having long flown the nest as well, we'll look to MAMLOOK with Arc Bleu the main danger. Those two hail from yards that have been known to land the odd tilt in this race and are sure to have been primed to the minute. Mamlook split Missoula and Liberate in a driving finish over two and a half miles at Ascot in June on his first Flat start for this yard and it's safe to assume that this race has been the plan ever since. There's little to choose between them at the weights but there may be a little more to come from the unexposed Pipe runner and it's significant that the yard have acquired the services of Ryan Moore, who partnered Miss Fara to victory in this race for Martin in 2002. Last year's winner Leg Spinner has a stiff task under top weight and of more interest is Northumberland Plate winner Arc Bleu as he's only 6lbs higher. He may not want the ground to ride too fast and he has yet to travel over this far on the level but he looks a player if he gets his conditions. We're happy to oppose Gee Dee Nen on grounds of stamina as two miles has appeared to be his limit in the past but ruling out Askar Tau on the grounds of the draw is a riskier strategy. Connections have been making all of the right noises in the build-up to the race and there are few holes in the profile of this progressive youngster but he's no price. Daraahem was impressive last time and is of interest but the soft ground at Haydock appeared to be a factor in the improved showing and a more appealing each-way option is Mighty Moon who has shown improved form since joining Richard Fahey and who will relish this extreme test. He may just lack the necessary class to win this though and we prefer the claims of Mamlook.
