Nothing makes strong appeal and BARKIS is offered up in hope rather than confidence. He is clearly nothing like a leading light for the champion trainer but it's interesting to see the stable persisting with him after just seven starts since the autumn of 2016 and a reproduction of his Southwell run just over a year would see him in the shake-up in a modest contest such as this, especially as he's now operating off a 3lb lower mark. Tamarillo Grove is an obvious candidate as he houses a decent strike rate over timber and confirmed his wellbeing with victory here last month. Nabhan was second that day and there should be little between the pair now, although the latter is nominated as the main danger after unseating last time when looking dangerous.
