In depth
Verdict
Paxford Jack has run some decent races in defeat of late and is taken to gain a deserved success at the main expense of Bill Owen and Vandante. The last mentioned has yet to taste success since coming over from Ireland but again ran well on his latest start at Worceter and has slipped to a fair mark so cannot be dismissed entirely. Wun Chai showed that his turn might not be far away when finding just Red Society too good at Taunton last time and is another to consider along with Gary Moore's Stormy Skye, who has been given a chance by the handicapper. Mantilla is not as good over fences as over hurdles and of more interest is Bill Owen. Pulled up at Wincanton last month, the nine-year-old may be better judged on earlier form at Taunton on which he holds solid claims. Paxford Jack has been running well off similar marks of late and a reproduction of recent form should suffice in this company.
