Verdict
Plenty to consider as one would expect but none makes more appeal than Io who could prove to be a veritable cash cow for punters. Taikoo and Whitcombe Spirit are nominated as two potential dangers. The first thing that takes the eye about the selection is her trainer; in the past ten years the master of Castle Stables has sent out St Enodoc, Taffrail, Contact Dancer and Baddam to win this prize. The second thing to take the eye is the booking of Kerrin McEvoy as the talented Australian enjoys a twenty two per cent strike rate and a healthy level stakes profit for the yard that rises to almost thirty per cent on the yard's three year olds. So, to the form, she showed little in three maidens at big prices last year and ran twice over a mile and a half in April, getting outpaced on both occasions. She should be cherry ripe now and can come into her own over this trip and beyond. It's interesting that Steve Drowne prefers Taikoo to Red Admiral and Hughie Morrison's runner is a large sort who may well have needed his latest run which came on the back of a short break. He should see out the longer trip and remains one to keep on the right side of. Whitcombe Spirit is a more sporting option but there are also reasons for believing that he's capable of a good deal better than he's shown to date now that he steps up in trip. John Egan rides plenty of winners for the yard who have won with three of their seven runners here, recording a level stakes profit in excess of fifty pounds. Fascinating fare with Io taken to thunder home.
