      Verdict

      Smokin Beau finished last season in great form finishing third in the Ayr Gold Cup before ending his campaign by narrowly failing to score in Listed company at Newmarket. The five-year-old will be a popular choice over his favoured minimum trip while Rudi's Pet will also be much sharper for a decent effort at Doncaster where the ground was too soft for him, although he may find just one too good here. The best of the three-year-olds is likely to be Sunday Sport who ran creditably in top-class company last season and should run well if she has progressed over the winter. However the one to side with could be Mitcham who after a series of problems returned to action back to his best when he was a very impressive winner at Kempton. The drop back in trip is not a problem and he is the one to beat.
