Lake Malawi hasn’t raced since September and has never tackled a trip this far but the presence of Jamie Codd in the saddle is a major plus. Course specialist Gold Chain has been placed over the distance but is much better over shorter. Last year’s winner Johnny Go is a pound lower and holds Wyfield Rose so shouldn’t be ignored and Scenic Star won over a similar trip at Downpatrick around this time last year but RIVER ICON has improved over staying trips this summer and her latest second at Aintree is the best form on offer.
