Verdict
A very good race for this valuable three-mile chase and we just side with Montreal but Joe Blake, Kock de la Vesvre, Glynn Dingle, Divet Hill, Moss Harvey and Celioso will all, with justification, have their supporters. Let's look at what we consider to be the major players. Joe Blake bounced back to form at Wetherby last time and, with his confidence on a high, he can run well off a five-pound higher mark. He has always been well-regarded by his astute trainer and could conceivably still be well-handicapped. Montreal is also back in form and has won his last two races in good style. The handicapper has, of course, reassessed him accordingly so he has more to do now but has struck up a good relationship with Timmy Murphy. Kock de la Vesvre is ten-pounds better off for the 10 lengths he was beaten by Divet Hill at Kelso on May 20, and it should be close between them again, although the latter loves to hear his hooves rattle. Glynn Dingle, who was third that day, comes into the reckoning based on today's weights. Moss Harvey has been raised five pounds for his three-length track win from Xaipete, and if we add the progressive Celioso, who improved markedly from November but lacks a recent run, to the list, then you have an idea, once again, as to just how competitive this race is - as it should be for the money. Still, we have to make a choice and on this occasion it is Montreal.
