In depth

Verdict

appears to be a match between Rosslea and Janus du Cochet, with the latter taken to prevail. Janus du Cochet liked soft ground in France so will not mind conditions here as he attempts to add to his recent Exeter victory, on what was his second outing over fences. Owner Terry Neil wants to run him in the National, so Martin Pipe has had to find a suitable opportunity for the seven-year-old if he is to qualify before the weights come out next month. He certainly has the potential to win a few more chases, if not the Aintree showpiece this year at least, and is our pick. Rosslea is a classy sort whose target is the Sun Alliance Chase, and he has come up against two top-class novice chasers in Therealbandit at Cheltenham and Pizarro at Leopardstown, since scoring at Bangor. That is good form by anybody's standards, but Martin Pipe, trainer of Therealbandit, will have a line to the form, and should know just what Janus du Cochet has to do to beat his main rival. Pipe also runs Kouros des Obeaux, but he is a bit-part player in a contest set up for a rousing finish, with Janus du Cochet taken to come out on top.
