Verdict
Tonight's most valuable race is the ¿20,000-added Antonia Deuters Rated Stakes, a contest for sprinters over the minimum distance of five furlongs, sponsored once again by Chris and Antonia Deuters - long-standing owners with Jack and Alan Berry. The Cockerham trainer is responsible for Gdansk who has flattered to deceive on occasion and in a cracking contest, the vote goes to Proud Native, ahead of a host of dangers including Hiccups, Smart Predator, Regal Song and Pax to name but four. The latter is a stablemate of the selection, with Izmail and Flak Jacket making up 'Dandy's ' quartet, but it is Proud Native who catches the eye, having won two of his last three starts, at Sandown and Newmarket. That latest effort was the nine-year-old's first handicap win in five years, his most recent exploits coming in claiming company. He is still very well treated compared to past ratings, and if the draw favours the far rail, he must go close. Strensall is overdue a win and if the action is up the stands side, he can play his part, while Jonny Murtagh is an eye catching booking for Hiccups. Any money for him would be significant. Tommy Smith remains hard to win with but has shown up well of late and Regal Song is two pounds worse off with stablemate Karminsky Park after beating her narrowly at Beverley. Smart Predator ran really well at York last time and is another not to discount, so it really is a tough one to call, but Proud Native can defy topweight.
