In depth

Verdict

The longest handicap in the Flat race calendar can go to Green ''N' Gold, who won the first leg of the new Pontefract Stayers Championship at the expense of course specialist Jamaican Flight, Accepting and Charming Admiral, who all have claims now the selection has been raised 7lb, but will need to post improved efforts to reverse the form. Toni Alcala and the lightly raced Moonshine Bay are others that come into the race with solid credentials and should attract a fair amount of each-way interest if the prices permit. Whereas Great As Gold, Mccracken and Protocol all have an abundance of stamina and will do their bit to ensure that this is as competitive renewal as ever. In contrast, That's Racing takes a huge step up in trip and, as the only one of the field with questions to answer in this area of his profile, he is probably best watched in this company. Jamaican Flight is a popular figure here and is sure to have plenty of support as he bids to register his fifth win at Pontefract from umpteen previous outings at the course. However, he is 6lb higher than he was when winning this race last year and he will need to pull out all the stops if he is to make every yard of the running again today. Therefore, with race tactics likely to unfold to suit his style of running, Green 'N' Gold is taken to swoop late to conquer again today.
