Verdict

NANTON should be too good for these and can take the feature ahead of King's Destiny; Mojave Moon and Prospect Wells rate best of the rest. Jim Goldie's likeable eight-year-old was well held in the Yorkshire Cup last time but this is much more his level and at the weights he's nothing to fear from these. Prior to that he'd taken a grand second in a Group Two contest and he loves to bounce off the sort of ground he'll get here, whilst the fact he's shown the speed to win over a mile and the stamina to come home in front over 1m7f suggests this trip will prove ideal at this stage and he can gain a popular win. King's Destiny has scope to improve but he was well beaten at Epsom off a mark of 107 last time. That was in a fiercely competitive handicap and this could actually prove an easier assignment, but he was reported at Epsom to have not liked the ground, officially described as good, which is backed up by his soft ground pedigree - when he won on quick ground he was thrown in and may simply have gotten away with it. With that in mind he's taken on here, as is Mojave Moon. Godolphin's representative won twice over this trip in France and would have claims on his solid third in a Dubai handicap at the start of the year, but since racing on these shores he's been beaten a combined 113 lengths in just two starts and needs to have improved. A bigger threat may therefore be Prospect Wells if he's ready to go on his first start since 2009 and indeed first for the yard. Some of his form in France, notably when second to ill-fated Montmartre in 2008, reads extremely well but he may need this first outing in 412 days. Ella is a likeable mare but she's better with cut and has work to do at the weights whilst Hatton Flight was beaten a long way on his return and also has plenty on his plate. Not the strongest of turnouts for the money but a good chance for the grey Nanton to oblige.
