In depth

Verdict

Ella, Veiled Applause, Kaateb and Peruvian Prince look the principals here with Kaateb getting the vote. Ella turned in the best performance of her career when scoring emphatically in heavy ground over this course and distance in April in her best display of her career. She is yet to show that sort of form on a faster surface and is opposed. Veiled Applause scored impressively at Ripon three outings ago in a race which has worked out well, and then ran encouragingly to be close up in a hot York handicap. His latest effort was respectable in anopther hot handicap, but the handicapper may have his measure. Peruvian Prince was made favourite at Doncaster on a slower surface recently but disappointed, after finishing ahead of Veiled Applause at York. The faster ground will help here, but he is not the most consistent type and is taken on. Kaateb was clearly slow to mature, not seeing a racecourse until he was four. However, he made up for lost time with a vengeance, winning twice and going close on another couple of occasions. He was made favourite on his re-appearance, but did not have the clearest of runs, finishing close up in second. He enjoys fast ground, and only two pounds higher here, Kaateb can take this.
