Verdict

A wide-open if modest handicap to bring the curtain down on racing at the track for another year. Awesome Allan had Cool Strutter back in third when winning an apprentices' handicap here eight days ago and has escaped a penalty. Robbian continues his slide down the handicap and has place claims again. Racquet was second at Catterick last week and the return to 6f should suit but Henrietta's Dream will need to improve again on her second in a maiden here last time to get off the mark. Nellie's Dancer seems better on the all-weather but this is the type of race in which Ambitious Icarus pops up from time to time, though he's better over the minimum. It's a very long time since BARKSTON ASH last got his head in front but he's racing off a plater's mark nowadays and is surely still better than that.
